I woke up this morning with a need to write. It was so perfect in my mind…let’s see.
After becoming President of NULYP, more people talk to me. They come over specifically to talk to me just because of my position. Honestly, it’s a bit off-putting. Not because of the people, but because you know the conversation is more about access than you. It’s no different than being a President of anything. From the latter experience, I learned not to get excited about the desire to converse as it is fleeting and sometimes distracts from your goals.
But there are times when a conversation turns into a golden opportunity. Golden in the conversation’s alignment with your goals and a newly acquired depth of understanding of a person, an issue, a concern you never experienced before. Just beyond golden to me is the divine conversation. Divine is when a conversation touches your personal life mission and draws you closer to your destiny. Divine conversation makes all conversations worthwhile. And so I converse a lot.
My friends say it is only in these conversations that I reveal my true self. They often tell me they wish I was more like this person with others. My response is that I am and if they come and talk they will know. Nonetheless conversation delivered a few lessons recently:
· Young women are most interested in my personal leadership trajectory when I would like them to be more interested in being the best woman they can be.
· Young men don’t have enough conversations about being a man, as we women do.
· Everyone has something beautiful and special to share with the world.
While these may seem wildly different thoughts, they converged in my brain and woke me up with the idea of Renaissance Women. No, I’m not starting a group. I would like to offer my random thoughts on womanhood. (underline my)
· Young women are at risk because they do not recognize the power of their womanhood.
· I would love to, but I can’t speak intelligently to the issues of men.
· Sharing my thoughts and trials may help you to be the best you.
Since I talk about a lot of things and like to name them, I’ll call these thoughts Ren Woman. My love for all things reborn, from Europe to Harlem to Malcolm and myself, makes Renaissance essential to these offerings. And woman refers to the obvious fact I am no longer a girl.
Enjoy…but don’t corner me in the hall to discuss it.
