It has been humbling to hear what my peers and colleagues are saying about my decision to run for a second term as NULYP President. Here are a few of them:
Brandi – it’s fantastic news that you’re running for re-election for NULYP President. As a corporate sponsor, we’re delighted to continue to build our relationship with you and the YP chapters. Continue leading the movement!!
– Crystal Washington, Scripps Network Interactive
I have worked directly with Brandi during her tenure as President of NULYP and she has demonstrated a high caliber, results oriented management style. She understands the national and regional issues without losing sight of the needs of every individual within the YP network. Her voice carries creditability and integrity for this Movement.
– Darnell Williams, Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts, Association of Executives President, National Urban League Board of Trustees
I am so proud to call Brandi Richard a colleague and friend! What impresses me most about Brandi is that the empowerment she envisions for young professionals is not just a platform. The goals she has for the Urban League Young Professionals are life goals! I see it every time she’s given a task or project at FEMA. That same go-getter attitude that makes her a great leader for YP causes her to be a visionary all day every day. You should vote for her, but more importantly, you should want to see more young professionals like her. She inspires those around her to greatness, and it isn’t an act. It’s how she lives!
– Tiffany Warren, Author & FEMA employee
One of the greatest attributes of someone who WANTS to take on a leadership role, is the understanding of the time, pressure, commitment, and burden it will undoubtedly cost them, YET they see the greater good of their energy spent. A leader understands the complexity of their role, and the sensitivity with which they must approach each task. They come understand someone must do this work and I am brave enough to take that risk. It will not always be perfect and it will not always be easy, but it is worth it. At the end of the day, after every trial and fire, that same leader would stand and say, I would do it all over again…. Not because of entitlement, but out of the honor it is to serve the people. This is the character and very nature of Brandi Richard! Bold. Selfless. Bright. I am proud to call her friend and boldly stand in support of her rising to the occasion to DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN! Re-elect Brandi Richard for NULYP President! – Christen O’Neal, Author, ULGDYP
I have been a part of Urban League of Greater Dallas Young Professionals for the last 5 years and in that time I have had the distinct pleasure of getting to know and working with Brandi Richard. Under her leadership I was able to develop myself professionally and to become more engaged in the city of Dallas all while experiencing the gratification of giving back to my community. I was fortunate enough to witness and be a part of her natural progression from Chapter President to Southern Region Vice President to National President of the Urban League of Young Professionals. I take great comfort in knowing that she is seeking a second term in office. If her first term is any indication as to the direction that we are headed as an organization then I urge all members along with myself to support Brandi Richard in her campaign for re-election. From strategic alignment to community awareness she’s an advocate and a voice of empowerment for all in the Urban League.
– Marco Smith, ULGDYP, In Transit
I am both excited and honored that President Richard is preparing to lead NULYP for another term. The past two years Brandi has stood on shoulders of great leaders in the Movement that came before her to showcase the talent of Young Professionals. She is a servant leader who is laser focused on creating sustainable programs and partnerships for the NULYP that aid us in being better servants to our affiliates, our families, and to our communities. She truly cares about every chapter, every member, and every person connected and effected by this Movement. I admire her integrity, her tenacity, and commitment to the Movement. I ask you all to support her, as i do, as she steps up to continue her great work.
– Michelle Merriweather, LAULYP, Starbucks
A great educator and author, Stephen Covey, wrote that to be a good leader one must inspire others, clarify their purpose, align structures and systems and empower people. According to this formula and any other formula that you would put next to Brandi Richards, you will in the end say “job well done, you are a good leader”. Over the past two plus years, I have had the distinct pleasure of working with Brandi on several occasions here in our Dallas Chapter YP and every time she stepped up to bat .1000. During our annual leadership retreat, she came to strategize and energize the newly elected executive committee and board. A weekend where we get away from the everyday hustle to strategically plan for the next term. We brainstormed and brainstormed some more to align all our goals with the National Urban League Young Professionals goals. Brandi took time out to give us her best telling us to take this movement personally, not to forget the community as we grow professionally and do all we can to be advocates of our community. Months later, our president saw fit to have a planning session for many years to come and Brandi again was right there along the way helping and empowering us to take it to the next level. The principles in which she does her job are outstanding. I am glad to know that she is seeking another term. I will be supporting her on the campaign for re-election.
