Hope This Helps: Own you

Hope This Helps:

Last week as I checked out at the grocery store, an extremely nice employee commented on how “she wished her locs were round like mine.” Perplexed, I commented on how nice her hair was styled and then added, “We always want what we don’t have. Your hair is gorgeous.” I was actually thinking about the fact that I needed to get my hair done when I saw her fresh updo.

I hear some form of this all the time. “I wish I could still wear heels like those.” “I wish I was still small enough to wear a dress like that.” And then there are even folks who get mad because I’ve finally figured out what looks good on me (colors, cuts, styles, etc.). It took years and a great deal of trial and error. And I still get it wrong.

So when a guy approached me in a party last week, checked my “7” shirt, and exclaimed, “Baby, you’re an 8;” I quickly responded with, “Boo, I’m a 10.” While I loved my response, I wished it was, “Boo, I’m a dime.” And I was…….in my jeans, tennis shoes, tank, and most importantly all the things he couldn’t even begin to see from the outside.

You are only as attractive, confident, and pulled together as you believe you are. Own you.

I asked to grow and God said, here you go. So I hope my growth helps you.
