Hope This Helps Peace
Hope This Helps:

The chill hit me when I got off the plane. Not the cold temperature, but the general disregard I normally experience. Just a day ago, I basked in the sun of feeling valued at the America Healing Conference. My colleagues spoke in terms of racially-induced trauma, American Indians prayed over us, and I healed in circles while eating locally-sourced vegetables and hormone-free fish. Each person was intentional about their words and actions and sought to understand. It felt peaceful.

And then I encountered the cold shoulder of indifference amidst the normal everyday hustle and bustle of New Orleans and then a new conference experience. Don’t get me wrong, no one was mean or hateful. If they were, I could not possibly know. But I didn’t feel as welcomed or necessary. My contribution didn’t feel as accepted.

I’m sure you are thinking, how could she know? It’s like the difference between basking in the sun and being under a cloud. But if I had not experienced the sun, I would have never known I was under a cloud.

And so it is, we who have not known equity have not really ever known peace. But if I can know it for a week in a room with all races, beliefs, genders, and cultures – all speaking their truth, then it is possible.

“The wound in the soul of America is the belief in the hierarchy of human value.” – Dr. Gail Christopher

There is no hierarchy in our value based on race, creed, or religion. Each of us are capable of being intentional about equality. Only then will we all know peace. I’m starting with me.

I asked to grow and God said, here you go. So I hope my growth helps you.

XO,

Brandi
