Hope This Helps:
40% of unmarried women in the Rising American Electorate (unmarried women, people of color and Millennials) are not registered to vote. Maybe we couldn’t get off from work early enough, or missed the deadline nursing a sick child back to health, or juggling two jobs.
Or maybe we just don’t care because we’re sometimes vilified as “single” moms by the same politicians who promise to protect the interests of everyone, but don’t protect ours. None of the current slate of candidates may actually fit our needs or have an interest in our problems. But that my dear, is exactly why we should register and vote to change the candidates at every level of office. We are responsible for protecting our interests and those of our children, busy or not.
It’s also the reason why we should run for office. Equitably addressing the needs of the community requires many diverse voices at the decision-making table. 37% of African Americans, 49% of Latinos, 51% of Latinos, and 51% of Millennials in the Rising American Electorate are not registered to vote either.
The United States and the world are becoming more diverse, but our electorate looks, sounds, and acts the same. Creating the pipeline of electable candidates for President begins at the state and local level. And how we live our lives each day is determined there as well.
“What the people want is very simple – they want an America as good as its promise.” – Barbara Jordan
Create your own American promise, Register and Vote. And if you don’t like the candidates, Run.
